IT’S DONE! I finally threw in the last bias pot. The only issue was when I went to close the case… I was getting a grounding issue. I’m still not where the problem is, but I got the pedal to close up. If I ever take it apart again, I’ll have to do some troubleshooting.
The two toggle switches give me 9 different clipping diode combinations!
So I found a few articles talking about stacking the capacitor value on the V847 to get different sounds. I found the right capacitor using the article HERE.
I added a SPDT on-off-on to toggle between a bass wah(47nF), stock wah, and a more throaty wah(12nF).
In between doing this mod and posting this update… I accidentally dropped my wah. The fall ended up breaking the switch, but I just ordered a new one. I should have it fixed next week. I’m also curious about investing into a Fasel Wah Inductor to replace the stock VOX one.
IT’S ALIVE! That first 308 chip must’ve been bad or I accidentally fried it. Oh well. The new lm308ah showed up today.
I popped it in and we’re good to go. Now I’m just waiting on the last 1k bias pot to show up.
I love my ProCo RAT reissue, but it’s been falling off my pedal board. The Velcro doesn’t seem to sit correctly. So I figured I could build a clone and throw some mods into it while I was at it. I ordered all the components and the enclosure from mammothelectronics.com. I got the PCB from GeneralGuitarGadgets.com.
I put it all together. I clicked it on and NOTHING. I have no idea what’s wrong with it. I only have one LM308 ic chip. So I just ordered a few more. Hopefully it’s just a bad chip.
The lower left and right knobs will be the BIAS controls. The toggles are different clipping diode switches.
I haven’t used my wah pedal in years. I stumbled across some mod ideas from Wampler’s Book. I looked online for some tutorials and I found this dude’s video. I pretty much followed it step by step.
Here is the new true bypass switch and LED.
I also removed the old panel mounted DC jack and added a more modern version.
I’ve had the breadboards all wired up for this pedal for a while now. Everything has been ready to go for this build, I just got sucked into work. When I got home last thursday night, there was still daylight. So I got out my drill and got everything ready to wire up.
So I’ve had a Reissued Big Muff pedal for a while now. I seldom used it. I got tired of the tone of it and I never liked how much space it took up on my pedal board. So I thought i could salvage the parts from it and throw it into a smaller case. I bought the pcb from General Guitar Gadgets and I used their new schematic/version of resistors and capacitors.
I was able to transfer all of the Diodes and Transistors. Then I used about half of the original resistors. As for the capacitors and the rest of the resistors I ordered from MammothElectronics.com.
It works! but it still needs knobs.
After throwing the Distortion Booster with the Voltage Starver on my pedal board, I immediately needed this pedal. I wanted to get rid of the noise and make it so that i can see when it’s on with an indicator light. I found this simple diagram through Google.
I ordered most of the parts on eBay, and picked up the knob and jacks from Torrance Electronics.
I also bought an electric drill today, so now I’m all set to build more pedals from scratch. I quickly learned that i should have marked where i wanted the holes, because now it looks sloppy from freehanding it. I’m just stoked it works.
